Seborrheic Keratosis Removal in Northampton
At The Expert Blemish Clinic, we specialise in the removal of all kinds of non-cancerous blemishes such as skin tags, warts and seborrheic keratosis.
Finding a blemish or growth on your skin can be unnerving but you can rest assured that we’re trained to identify and treat common skin blemishes. If it’s a mole you’re concerned about, we also offer a professional mole and lesion screening service to detect suspicious moles and blemishes quickly.

What is seborrheic keratosis?
Seborrheic keratosis is a non-cancerous skin growth, often appearing with age. It develops in the epidermis of the skin following a build up of skin cells that eventually create a raised lesion. They often appear on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and torso.
Whilst it’s a very common and harmless type of skin blemish, many people choose to get it removed because they don’t like how it looks or it’s causing irritation. Often large and textured in appearance, it can easily catch on clothing or become itchy.
If you have a skin blemish and are trying to determine what exactly it is, Seborrheic Keratosis often has a number of the below features;
-
Appears raised or thickened
-
Looks as though it’s sitting on top of the skin
-
Round or oval in shape
-
Ranges from tan to dark brown or black
-
Has a waxy, rough or slightly scaly surface
Don’t worry if you can’t be sure what it is, that’s our job! We’ll fully assess your skin blemish during your consultation to determine what it is and how best to treat it.
How to remove seborrheic keratosis?
Once your blemish has been fully assessed and confirmed as safe for removal, we can treat it at our Northampton clinic using advanced blemish removal techniques.
The two most common techniques we use for Seborrheic Keratosis removal are advanced electrolysis and cryotherapy.
Cryotherapy: Uses controlled freezing to slowly freeze and break down the cells within the blemish.
Advanced Electrolysis Thermolysis: Uses targeted heat via a fine probe to precisely target and lift off the blemish.
Seborrheic keratosis can appear on its own, or a patient may have multiple. Whilst we can treat multiple blemishes at a time, this will be decided on a case by case basis during your consultation so be prepared for the possibility of multiple sessions. This personalised approach allows us to achieve the best possible result for you, whilst prioritising your skin health and recovery.
How advanced electrolysis thermolysis & cryotherapy treats seborrheic keratosis
Advanced electrolysis thermolysis and cryotherapy are effective treatments used to remove seborrheic keratoses.
With thermolysis, a fine probe delivers controlled heat directly into the lesion. This heat gently dehydrates and breaks down the excess keratin tissue found in seborrheic keratosis, allowing the growth to be reduced or carefully removed while preserving the surrounding skin.
Cryotherapy treats seborrheic keratosis by freezing the lesion with a precise application of cold gas. The freezing process destroys the abnormal keratin cells, causing the growth to dry, shrink and gradually detach as the skin renews itself. Healing continues naturally over the following weeks as fresh skin replaces the treated area.
The right treatment for you will be determined during your blemish consultation.
What to expect after treatment
Following the removal of your seborrheic keratosis, it’s important to keep the area clean and avoid touching the treated area unnecessarily. Mild redness, sensitivity or a small crust may develop, which is a normal part of the healing response. Try not to pick or remove any of the crusting, allowing the lesion to dry, shrink or detach naturally will reduce the risk of scarring.
Do not pick or remove any crusting. Allow the lesion to dry, shrink or detach naturally to reduce the risk of scarring. Swimming, saunas or excessive heat exposure should be avoided in the days following treatment. If you do go in the sun, be sure to protect the area with SPF 50. It’s also best to avoid harsh skincare products on the area, until the skin has fully healed.
If you notice signs of infection, increasing pain or delayed healing or are at all worried, please contact us and we advise.
