Xanthelasma Removal in Northampton
Xanthelasma are soft, yellowish or white plaques that develop around the eyes, typically near the inner corner. These benign lesions are usually painless, but many choose to get them removed for cosmetic purposes.
While these growths themselves are painless, they can be indicators of underlying health concerns. It is advised to consult a GP to find the cause.

What is xanthelasma?
Xanthelasma are small deposits of cholesterol and lipids which build up just underneath the skin. What they look like:
-
They appear flat or slightly raised
-
Are yellow or cream in colour
-
Commonly occur on the eyelids
Xanthelasma is caused by lipid build up. This occurs when excess lipids are trapped in immune cells underneath the top layer of skin. Genetics also play a large role in the development of xanthelasma, but risk factors include smoking, obesity and high blood pressure.
How to treat xanthelasma?
Xanthelasma removal is a process which is frequently carried out by The Expert Blemish Clinic.
Most lesions can be treated in one session, however, depending on the size or number of lesions, you may require multiple sessions. This will be discussed and decided in your consultation.
We perform xanthelasma removal using advanced electrolysis thermolysis. This is where the affected tissue is targeted with a precise probe which delivers a low-frequency electrical current in order to remove the blemish.
How advanced electrolysis thermolysis treats xanthelasma
Advanced electrolysis thermolysis removes xanthelasma through the use of a small, precise, sterile probe. This delivers a low-frequency electrical current to the targeted site in order to cauterise the lipid deposits.
The electrical current shrinks the fatty deposits, so that they can be removed eventually.
What to expect after treatment
Following your treatment, you may experience slight swelling or redness around the eyes for a few hours. This is completely normal and is due to the skin around your eyes being thinner and more sensitive.
You will also notice the treated lesions turn into scabs. It is important to let these heal naturally and fall off with no intervention. This will reduce the chance of scarring and allow the treated site to recover properly.
Removing xanthelasma doesn’t prevent new lesions from forming. You might need further treatment to remove any new lesions.
