What is syringoma?

Syringomas are benign growths related to sweat glands. They usually develop in early adulthood or adolescence and are harmless. They can however become itchy which can cause people to want them to be removed.

What they look like:

  • They are small, firm papules

  • They are usually 1-3mm in size

  • Appear skin-coloured or slightly yellow

  • Often occur in clusters

Syringoma can be hereditary meaning there are no external causes to their development.

How to treat syringoma?

Syringoma removal is a process which is carried out frequently at The Expert Blemish Clinic.

Treatment focuses on precise and cosmetic outcomes. Typically, syringomas can be treated in one session, however, depending on the size and response to treatment, multiple sessions may be required.

At The Expert Blemish Clinic, we use advanced electrolysis thermolysis for syringoma removal.

How advanced electrolysis thermolysis treats syringoma

Advanced electrolysis is a treatment which uses a fine, sterile probe to deliver a low-frequency electrical current to the treatment site. This gently cauterises the sweat glad and dissolves the blemish, allowing it to scab over and eventually fall off.

Syringoma removal can typically be achieved in one session, however, depending on the size and response of the lesions, multiple sessions may be required. This will be discussed and determined in your consultation.

What to expect after treatment

Immediately after treatment, the site will appear red, slightly swollen and may be more sensitive than usual.

Small scabs will develop over the treated area. This is normal and they will usually be healed within 7-14 days. It is important to avoid picking in order to reduce scarring and to allow for proper healing.
